City of Coalinga
Drought Charge Toolbox

This tool currently only works for residential accounts.

The intent of this tool is give residents easy access to their 2020 historical usage and give you an idea of how much extra that you would pay on your city bill at various water usage levels.

To begin, you must enter a valid account name and number in the search field, located at the top of the page. They should be formatted like like this:

John Doe
xx-xxxxx-xxx

Once you have searched, your water usage history and conservation goals will be shown on the Water Use History card.

From that point you will be able to select a month on the Calculator Tool card, and be able to move the slider left or right until your desired usage is shown in the Water Use field. This will tell you your drought charge at that water use in the Drought Charge field.

  • What is A Drought Charge?

A drought charge is an enforcement mechanism used to encourage water conservation.

The Drought Rate is $5.22/TG. This is what your Drought Charge on the calculator is based on.

However, please be aware that this is on top of the normal 2.28/TG rate. This effectively means all water beyond your Conservation Goal will be charged at $7.50.

  • What is My Conservation Goal

Your conservation goal is based on your 2020 usage from the start of July to the end of September.

    • For residents with 2020 usage less than 15TG, your conservation goal is 15 TG
    • For residents with 2020 usage between 15TG - 21.43TG your conservation goal is 30% or 15TG, whichever comes first.
    • For residents with 2020 usage between 21.43TG - 43TG your conservation goal is 30%.
    • For residents with 2020 usage more then 43TG your conservation goal is 30TG.

Meter Read Tool

This tool is to calculate your usage based on your previous and current meter reading. This process is not straight forward due to meters generally reading in cubic feet (cuFt), and billing systems bill in thousand gallons.

Current Reading should be the first four numbers you see on your meter, and Previous Reading should be the Current Reading on your bill.

Here is a link that describes how to read your meter and how it is related to your bill:
